Wall Street demonstrators said to number 10,000

10 October: Organisers of the Operation Occupy Wall Street protest estimate that there are now 10,000 people camped out in New York City.

It is claimed that similar demonstrations are now happening in Washington DC, Chicago, Los Angeles and more than 300 other cities.

Members of the hacking collective Anonymous and their supporters began gathering in Wall Street in New York on 17 September in an attempt to occupy the area for several months.

Activists have said that Operation Occupy Wall Street is an attempt to echo the protests seen during the Arab Spring.
